NY Jets lose FA QB Mike White to AFC East rival

In the midst of Aaron Rodgers’ waiting game, the New York Jets have lost a key member of their quarterback room.

Mike White has reportedly agreed to terms with the division-rival Miami Dolphins, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The deal is worth up to $16 million over two years.

White started four games for the Jets in 2022 after taking over for Zach Wilson in Week 11. He averaged 298 passing yards per game with three touchdowns and four interceptions. White also started three games in 2021, including his Hall of Fame game against the Bengals.

White, who turns 27 later this month, will presumably serve as Tua Tagovailoa’s backup in Miami. With the latter’s spotty injury history, it feels likely that the Jets wind up facing their former QB sometime down the line.

White himself grew up in Florida and played the first two years of his collegiate career at the University of South Florida.
